Some of my personal pics of Illinois:

Does NY have sand prairies? Savannahs? Tallgrass prairies with cacti?

Thats enough for now I suppose. If anyone is interested, here are some Chicago suburb pics. Not only do I prefer Chicago to NYC, but I most definitely prefer Chicago's burbs to NYC's as well.
Some suburb pics (56K BEWARE!)

Great shots, Steve-o. I had no idea Illinois looked that good. So many hidden areas.

I went to University of Chicago for undergrad and NYU for grad.

I would say that Chicago has a larger percentage of African Americans, while New York has a larger percentage of immigrants. This sounds trivial, but it really does contribute to the cultural and economic differences between the two cities.

Agreed; I wasn't thinking Chicago or NYC, but outside of the cities. I would love to live in one of the bucolic little communities in the Hudson River Valley.

I don't have one of Niagara Falls right off hand but here are a few that I hadn't previously posted from various areas around New York State.

Perhaps the fact that you were in Hyde Park (University of Chicago) is the reason why you came to this conclusion.

Hyde Park (the gem of the south side) is on the south side, which tends to be largely either black or white.

The far north and northwest sides are where you'll find more diversity as far as immigrants go.
