one thing that sucks about New York is how congested it is...disgusting! that goes for the northeast in general.
What are you talking about? Have you ever been to NY? Sure, there is congestion in Westchester, NYC and LI, but have you been to the Southern Teir? the Adorondaks? the Bristol Hills? Even the big cities upstate have very low average commute times compared to the rest of the country.
West Point kicks the crap out of 99% of colleges around the world. Not only does West Point offer academics second to none, but it kicks you into shape... Into military shape. It teaches you leadership skills, you wear military uniforms, you march, and you must serve 4 years in the military.
If I was an employer and you gave me an applicant from West Point, who got straight A's in high school and also served 4 years in the military or a guy from Harvard, who got straight A's in high school and was a member of chess club then I'd take the guy from West Point ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
At West Point, you are treated like a solider... You touch weapons, you stand in formation, you will be yelled at in your face while standing stiff and not blinking an eye. You are in the military while attending West Point and there is no experience in the world greater than that, especially sitting at a desk at Harvard playing chess.

NY state is so diverse. There's a night and day difference between southern NY and northern NY. Not so much with the weather (though it's generally like 10-15 degrees warmer here in southern NY), but the culture is way different. Kind of like how north FL and south Fl are so diverse. Don't really have that with Illinois.
NY has a diverse population, diverse topography, many higher educational opportunities and so much more. Just in the part of NY I live in, you have schools like Colgate, Cornell, Oswego, Syracuse and Ithaca College, among others within an hour. Again, within 2 hours you have the 1000 Islands, the Adirondacks, the Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario, Canada and many beautiful hills and valleys. We have 4 legit seasons too. We have a relatively good size Native American population in my area too and the nice Turning Stone Casino is run by the Oneida Nation. I'm not even going to get into the other parts of the state of NY.
Without a doubt, Illinois. It is home for me and the most important members of my family, people who I honor and love, are and will be be buried in the state.
I'd rather live in new york STATE... I'd rather live in Chicago over NYC though.
