Denver is known as the only large American city with high elevation. The only other cities that would come close are Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Salt Lake City.

Actually, most of Albuquerque is at a higher elvevation than denver. Some of Albuquerque extends as high as 6,500 feet. However, Albuquerque sits in a bowl. The east of the city is at the base of the Sandia Mountains. As you head west towards the heart of the city, you enter a valley (where downtown and Albuquerque sunport is [the airport]). As you get to the 'westside' of Albuquerque, you begin climbing again onto the west mesa.
Albuquerque also gets a lot less snow than denver, mainly because it is situated in a desert.
Sorry I don't have any links to back up my claims other than oral discussions with various professors and other intellectuals.
i dont think that there is a "large" city or metro on a higher altitude than denver... if you can think of one let me know! because theres not!!
dosen't really count as a big city, but isn't Colorado Springs higher than Denver?
