You may not think you are hijacking any threads but this thread right here is a perfect example that you are. Omaha is not on the list and yet someone had to insinuate that it belonged here and that 62nd rating is unjustified. The fact that its metro population puts it at about #60 overall among metro area rankings in population seems to justify its place in the rankings. It's an average metro area pure and simple.

Whether you realize it or not, you should consider yourselves as Ambassadors of your community. Right now the general impression by people reading the posts by you and the other Omaha people about Omaha is that people in your area are puerile, pushy, over bearing and incapable of taking even the mildest of criticism concerning the region. And worse still, it appears as though you have an artificially inflated value of your own self worth. In other words your insecurity has resulted in giving the appearance that you have an ego the size of the planet Jupiter.
what? like I said, the area has flaws, I even outlined them for you, but my arguement wasn't stupid, and neither was GoNe's orginal one. Omaha being ranked so highly in most rankings like this and not even included in the possibilities here I think is ridiculous for reasons I've already stated. And 62nd may be close to it's population ranking, but certainly not it's livabily ranking, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who has actually been to the city in the last few years who agrees with such a low ranking.

If the title was best Mega cities to live work and play then I wouldn't have any problem, but it is simply cities, and Omaha is a large city along with others that should have been considered for the title, NOT JUST OMAHA, and they weren't.

If people automatically say Omaha isn't good enough, and judge it without having been here, how do you propose I change their minds? Shuting up and letting them continue to delude themselves? I'm not going to do that. I'm sorry if it annoys you but if you sit and listen to what I'm saying I'm not stupid or full of myself, I'm trying to fight back against the mis-conceptions, and it takes a bit of talking to do that.

Ok, so you have a bunch of men running around corn fields in speedos. What do you want from me?

I was thinking earlier today that Houston is an awesome place and is becoming the New York of the south/southwest. Austin is one of the places for music in the country. Lot of young bands there. I think Houston really tops the list for the poll I posted.

As for states/cities in the plains. Kansas City has amazing bbq and the Chiefs. And lets not forget those Jayhawks at K.U. Kansas is a really cool plains state. Wichita is really up and coming. South Dakota had MT Rushmore, Oklahoma has Oklahoma City, North Dakota has Fargo and Bismark. When I think of the plains those thoughts come into my head. I really cannot think of anything else.

Oh, that's right Nebraska. Isn't that a Bruce Springsteen album?

So what if we have corn fields, what do you have in your state? We also have Omaha, which is a metro of 870,000, and Lincoln, a metro of about 350,000. What do you do all day? Enforce stereotypes? And haven't I and Adam made a point that Omaha is also really up and coming?

Not quite. The latest (2007) population figures from the US Census:

Lincoln MSA: 292,219
Omaha MSA: 829,890

You guys haven't said anything about Omaha that can't be said about most any other regional center in the country, and I think that's all that people are saying. I'm tickled that you guys love your city so much. But there's no need to make it into something it isn't.

I vote for both San Diego and Kansas City... I love San Diego but the cost of living kills it for me, so I go for Kansas City because I love the midwest.

'True. My facts were outdated. Your still stuck in Nebraska. You poor thing. Watch out for those scarecrows! Little tiny Hartford County, CT has about 50% the population of your entire state! Wichita is awesome, a billion times better than Omaha. Other cities better than Omaha in Heartland:

ST.LOUIS(The Arch)
KANSAS CITY,MO (Awesome place, jazz, Joe Montana, Bo Jackson)
DES MOINES, IA
Overland Park, KS
Tulsa, OK
Oklahoma City, OK (Pop = 537,000)
Little Rock, Arkansas
Springfield, IL
Gary, Indiana (Not that is a tough city)

Omaha is more of a town like Concord, NH or Topeka, KS. There are no major sport teams or anything representing a major city.'

aren't?
