Same can be said about most of NE Ohio being more NE feeling than Midwest.

this is an indianapolis thread. if you want to brag about cleveland, go start another thread about it and see what people think.

indianapolis is perhaps the most overrated self-hyped fake-urban city of the COUNTRY. "downtown is so great" - there's like 4 buildings. the pictures you posted "how can you not be proud of that?".... proud of WHAT? flat nothingness. people that love indy have never lived in a REAL city. i'm sorry.

there's no density. no urbanity. no architecture. no diversity. no FUN/diverse night life. no history. no culture (apart from racing and white people basketball and cornfields). no food (oh what about st. elm's steakhouse??? - pathetic.).

its the "been there done that" of cities. besides indy 500, there's no reason why i would ever make a trip there. crossroads of highways..."OHHH I WANT TO SEE THAT!!!"

it's great for its size (oh and the 700,000 people is load of garbage...a ploy by annexing the whole marion county which is Mostly made of cornfields and suburban houses which in no way constitutes as a city). but come on people of indy, stop making seem like some urban cultural metropolis destination. ITS NOT. detroit, cincy, stl, minneapolis, kc, columbus, even cleveland blow indy to the dust.

Only people from Indy have their own self-prescribed indy fetish, who excite themselves by calling themselves "diverse" when a chop suey restaurant opens up. indiana and indy will continue to be known as the armpit of america, sticking to their cornfields and white people basketball, and will always be mentally stuck in 1950.

there, i said it.

I've never heard anyone describe Indianapolis as the "armpit of America". However, I have heard people describe the Gary and Hammond area as "Chicago's sewer".

Having lived at one time in Indy for a while I would hardly say it is lily white. They seem to make the most out of what they have there. That's more than I can say for a lot of regions. Seems to me there are far worse "fetishes" than this. :-)

i have not heard that one before, Indianapolis "armpit of america", where did you find that, the bathroom humor book you have hidden behind the cabnit? nothing is wrong with white people playing basketball, i know tons of white people that could kick your A$$ in that game. HA!! But doesnt Illinois have corn fields too?? I want you to go to Marion county and find one corn field or suburb and you can get back to me with proof. Basically all of Marion county is the city of indianapolis. i have lived in detroit and indianapolis is a much more livable place, i mean you dont have to worry about getting shot when you walk out of your home, which is the only one on your block because all the others got torn down.

and your Chi-town is completely flat as well, so suck on that fraud!!! HA!!

The last paragraph was unnecessary, but the rest is true. My brother and a few friends live in Indy. It's basically a big suburb with a few tall buildings. I don't know how you could consider that the best city in the midwest. Madison, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinatti, and St. Louis are vastly preferable to the "Schaumburg^2" version of a city Indianapolis provides.

I don't think Indianapolis will ever top anyone's top list, but it really doesn't matter....it's a great place, and needs no hype...it is what it is....
and the living is great, especially just north in hamilton county...the Carmel/Clay library there is better than some major cities I've lived in.
