Well, considering Safeway and Kroger cover between them almost all of the US and Canada, and considering Meijer is only the tenth largest private company in the US, and Aldi is basically the grocery store in Europe and is only recently (past decade or so) breaking into the US market, I'm going to assume you don't get out of your neighborhood too often.

I do travel lot around the continental US. I won't pretend that I'm not very oriented in where I'm from though. I'll be honest and say that when I don't pay much attention to chains and stores that haven't made their presence known in my area, particularly since I only mess with big chains when I'm shopping for clothes or groceries.

Well, We have a Von's, but no Safeway and a Ralphs but no Kroger. We don't have an Aldi or Meijer anywhere near where I live.

I shop at Trader Joe's and Food 4 Less for the majority of my purchased groceries. We grow much of our own food and what we don't grow, we barter from friends.

I mess with Fairway, Pathmart, Key Food, and small local spots. For veggies I go to the small vegetable stores. Fish Markets for Fish. Smith Street Butcher on occasion for Steaks and stuff. For everything else I hit up the bodega.
