Default Metro growth rates

So much chest-thumping has been going on lately in this forum about whose metro areas are growing fastest--some of it false--I thought I'd go to the source (US Census) and just see which are growing fastest. If this has already been posted recently I apologize for the repeat.

This first list is the 100 fastest-growing metro areas by growth rates, 2006-2007.

Just multiply the one year percent growth by 10 to see what the growth between census's would be.

For example, if Palm Coast, FL maintained a 7.2% growth for 10 years it would grow by 72% in that span

Glad to see New Orleans bouncing back.
Atlanta adding another 1.6 million in the next 10 years? That just makes me shudder.

Those numbers have changed somewhat since last year. For instance, several counties in Florida which were previously booming are now reporting completely flat growth.

actually it would be right around 100% growth, not 72%, you need to factor in the compounding growth, not just the growth over the 2000 or 2006 base

It's amazing what is happening to many of American's traditionally dominant cities.

New York only adding 33,273? (less than Nashville, Minneapolis, etc)
Boston only adding 17,183? (less than Richmond VA, Boise ID)
Philly only adding 17,128? (less than Bakersfield CA, Tucson)
St Louis only adding 9,987? (less than Louisville KY, Columbia SC)

It's amazing how high taxes can decimate even a metro area with a high average income

High taxes aren't what is hurting those cities. New York and Boston are prohibitively expensive cost-of-living wise, you could have no taxes and they would still be too expensive. Philadelphia and Saint Louis have lousy (and unfounded) reputations that will dog them for some time yet, that is only compounded by marginal economy in Saint Louis. The taxes in Memphis and Birmingham aren't much, yet those cities aren't growing at any rate either.
