That was my first thought as well.

"Baldwin, MI, violent crime, on a scale from 1 (low crime) to 10, is 6. Violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The US average is 3.
Baldwin, MI, property crime, on a scale from 1 (low) to 10, is 4. Property crime includes the offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The object of the theft-type offenses is the taking of money or property, but there is no force or threat of force against the victims. The US average is 3."

It's not so safe especially for it being rural. I mean No one should jump to conclusion of it's racist. The town is almost 60% White.

BTW, Hobbs, NM is another one

60% White is extremely low compared to most rural Michigan towns. I'm guessing most are well into the 90's.

NE Michigan is the least diverse area of the state.

Mine too. Interesting.......Hey he could have mentioned communities like Cassopolis and Vandalia(another Underground RR town like Baldwin). Both are rural Western Michigan communities with high African American communities. Actually, Vandalia is pluralistically more Black than anything else. There are some other small towns/cities on that side of the state with decent sized AA communities as well. Off the top of my head, White Cloud, Big Rapids, Dowagiac, Buchanan, Covert, Decatur, Bangor, South Haven, Allegan and others.

I think the difference is that the guy mentioned shootings, not violent crime. They aren't necessarily one and the same.

Cairo, IL is a great example of a rural ghetto.

That's right between 226 and the frontage road going to I-10, isn't it? I've been on that road before, it's pretty amazing how Southern Dona Ana County along the Rio Grande is more or less an extension of rural Juarez. Two other areas like this are the East Mesa near Cruces, as well as White Meadow Lake near Los Lunas. You see dead dog carcasses rotting, appliances, tires, all sorts of home garbage, and graffiti, sprinkling the landscape. For someone coming from the cities, such poverty is an attention grabber.

Those pictures are pretty incredible to me. What the heck happened there?

I've never actually been to Cairo, but I have driven through that part of Illinois. It felt very lonely and almost deserted, compared to the well-kept and clean-looking farming areas in the middle of the state.
