Similar to the thread I saw about TX, I figured I'd start one about CA and see the responses.

completely subjective, some will say yes, many will say no. There is no right answer.

In overall quality of life, Id say probably not.

We have by far the most things going for us and also by far the most strikes against us.

Comes with the territory of having 38 Million people I guess.

Of course in my biased and totally partial mind, California is the best by far. LOL

I'm happy here,so yes it is the best state for me

California is like meshing together all the other 49 states into one,so the variety here is amazing.

I Love The Golden State !

California is the biggest state (population wise), the most diverse state in terms of population, the most diverse in terms of natural scenery, the biggest agricultural producer in the nation, the King Kong of National Parks, among dozens of other things. California is so big it could be its own country. If by best state you mean best state to live in, I believe that there are many other states out there, while offering "less" and not quite as multi-dimensional as California, yet offer more coherent, accessible, and affordable packages. I think there are many great states out there. My favorites all border each other actually; the four corner states (Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico) plus Nevada and California. This giant super-region of the country (the southwestern quadrant actually, if you split the map of the US 2 by 2) is the land I call my home, and every one of its six states (and many Indian "nations" as well) has something unique to offer.

Best state? If you would of asked this question 40 years ago I would of definately said yes. Quality of life has gone down the drain slowly since then. Having lived both in the northern and southern half of California for 20 years, I have personally experienced fires, drought, earthquakes, traffic issues, immigration issues, smog issues, crime related issues, high taxes, health care issues, public school issues, all issues that affect the quality of life which I feel is the key in trying to answer your question. So I would say no, Ca is not the best state, anymore.
