1. Kansas City: pop. 441,545. MSA:1,842,965. Latest estimates done by the city put it around 510,000. The metro is believed to have passed 2 million earlier this year.
2. St. Louis: pop. 348,189 MSA: 2,803,024
3. Springfield: pop. 151,580 MSA: 368,374
4. Independence: pop. 113,228. It is the largest suburb of Kansas City on the Missouri side.
5. Columbia. pop. 84,531
6. St. Joseph. pop. 73,990 Also part of the KC area. Generally not considered a suburb, though.
7. Lee's Summit. pop. 70,700 Another KC suburb.

KC has fewer, but larger suburbs than St. Louis, which has a whole bunch of small suburbs.

Louisville (city 557,000; metro 1.2 million)

Lexington (city 279,000; metro 450,000)

They are several cities with more people, but Covington and Newport have a decent skyline (both across from Cinci)
