With Labor day being Sept. 1, do most people take vacation the first week of Sept (from Aug. 30-Sept. 6) or the last week of Aug (Aug. 27-Sept. 2)?

We never take a summer vacation. Our kids get a week off in the fall and an extra week for spring break. Usually we'll go somewhere on those breaks. Less crowds and better weather. Although we do take some smaller beach trips during the summer, but it's not our "vacation".

Since my child is grown and my grandbaby isn't old enough for school yet....I avoid vacation in the summer AT ALL COSTS!
Every place is so crowded.
I'd rather go in the fall.

I'm a grad student, so I tend to take my vacations either during spring break, winter break, or sometime earlier in the summer.

I usually have class before and after Labor Day.

If one were to plan a vacation around Labor Day, I'd want to go when most things would be open. Would the best bet be the week before labor day, or the week of Labor day. This year Labor day is on a monday. My guess is the after Labor day because everyone would be rushing the fri, sat right before the 1st of September

In your city, as an example, do banks, doctor's offices, close the days just prior to Sept. 1, or would they be closed Sept. 1, 2, 3, 4?
I'm trying to plan my vacation the best way I can to avoid the mad rush and don't want everything to be closed
