Northern colonial buildings were typically red or dark brick style.

Southern colonial buildings often incorportated lighter colors, including shades of white, cream, and occasionally light brown.

Which type of historical architecture do you prefer?

Both regions have gorgeous examples of colonial architecture and I can appreciate the design of each. However, being a New England girl, I find the brick center hall colonial to be my preference if I were going to choose.

This is a really tough choice for me, because I like both.

I always love the architecture when I visit places like MA.

But...I have to say, I love nothing more than an old white building. White buildings just look so clean and elegant. So I'm going to vote southern, I think.

There are plenty of white colonial buildings in the North. Just look at all the churches in New England!

I must have missed them! Unfortunate. All I can remember from my last trip to MA was how overwhelmingly red-brick everything was (but not in a bad way...I thought it was attractive).

I like the Southern style more b/c they have huge porches many times and I like that, just chillin back on a porch on a warm day is awesome....I wish more homes out west had porches like that.

I think West Coast craftsman style bungalows and Victorians are preferable.
