NY style pizza of course. It is the best in the world maybe with the exception of Italian. However NY style is mainly Italian.

Isn't NY style just a big thin slice of pizza? Not that unique imo...pretty much what you can get from pizza hut or any other large chain but a larger size.

I picked ChicagoStyle b/c it's different and freaking delicious

BLASPHEMY!!!!

Pizza Hut is a form, albeit poor imitation, of pizza.

You saw the picture from Grimaldi's I hope, none of the chains can deliver that consistently.

Houston's local answer to the Village Voice (even owned by the Voice), the Houston Press, did a review of the local Grimaldi's franchise. There are Grimaldi's everywhere these days, but the thing that sets the NYC version apart is the blackening of the crust. They just aren't made the same here or anywhere else as they are in NYC. Even the franchise joints like Grimaldi's make the pie uniquely in NYC versus the rest of the country.

Check the two photos out in this article to compare the difference:
Houston - Eating Our Words - All Grimaldi's Pizzas Are Not Created Equal

Even with the differences, Pizza Hut can't come close to comparing to even a Houston-made NYC-styled pizza. They are worlds apart.

Geez Grimaldi's is franchising out?

Appears to be a local custom, give me the charred crust any day.

That is coming from a die-hard NY pizza connoiseur. I'll take a burnt clam pizza any day of the week over those fancy schmancy west coast pies.

Since when is BBQ chicken, thai food, or guacamole "fancy schmancy"?

That said, most of the pizza in CA is just normal NY or Chicago style pizza (or our attempts at it...from what I hear we do pretty good sometimes). There's definitely plenty of crappy pizza too of course.

As far as "california style pizza" goes though, just don't think of it as the same thing as NYC pizza...it's something else entirely. I know it's not the same, but i can't deny that BBQ chicken and BBQ sauce on circular dough, covered with cheese, baked in an oven, and called "pizza" sure tastes good!
