I pretty much have a "deep" western accent, born and living in California.

I got Midland.

I've had people tell me I sound northern though.

I got North Central 100% and then

West
Midland
Boston
Inland North
South
Philadelphia
Northeast.

I'm a born and raised Chicago suburbanite though.

I also am not sure if the descriptions work well with the regions because the Midwest usually is "without an accent."

Your Result: The Inland North

The Midland
The Northeast
Philadelphia
The South
The West
Boston
North Central

I don't sound nasal though.

There is no Southern. Just for fun I went through all the answers just to see the differences and none of them came up as Southern.

I'm from Florida and I got Midland. My southern comes out every once and awhile but I think this test got it spot on. My folks are from Cincinnati and a southern accent was not prevalent while growing up. However, my husband is 100% southern and after 10 years I still don't understand somethings he says! I wonder what this means for our children??

Yeah, I don't know about that quiz. It thinks I'm from 'the northeast', and I'm not, I've never lived anywhere but the Midwest.

The only thing I can surmise is what other people have told me about my accent. I've usually been told that I have a Great Lakes/Chicago style accent with a fair amount of my mom's Boston inflections thrown in (unlike most Midwesterners, I make the Merry/Mary distinction and occasionally drop an 'r' here and there when distracted and/or stressed). Perhaps this just confused the poor thing and it tried to find somewhere in the middle. I recall taking it once before and it telling me I was from Philly, which is equally confusing to me.

My other theory on why the quiz may be off is that I quite frankly cannot hear how I sound and put in how I think I sound, and lets face it, most people don't really know how they sound.

I don't have an accent, the rest of you do .

Oh all right, the test says I have "The Midland" Even though in reality I have a screwed up pattern of speech that is parts Michigan, Texas/Southern, Northeast/Maine all rolled into one that makes EVERYBODY in the Country stop and ask "What was that again?" all the time.
