Why do people in other countries think that Americans are fat.
If you for example go to Europe and ask them what they are thinking about when saying ''America'' ... 99% would say Fat people, fast food etc.

LOL! It's true

Why do people around the world think Americans are fat? In my travels into the US I saw a lot of really overweight people. So many young people, especially girls who were morbidly obese.

In most restaurants when you order food they bring you enough to feed a family of four and 90% of the food is refined sugars and highly processed food with little or no nutritional value.

On Yahoo today there's an Auzzy news clip that says Australians are actually fatter than Americans.

I think easy access to junk food and our busy lifestyles are leading us down the wrong path!

I also don't think it's just Americans.

American girls - big boobs (all those beer and fries). European girls - small boobs (all the smoking has reduced it to the extent of flat chested)

Yeah, Americans aren't perfect. Obesity happens to be one of our problems.

But at least we shave our armpits, right?

Obesity among American youth is especially bad and awful in adults. Two examples:

Obesity plateaus among children- OregonLive.com

Kids don't get out to play anymore thanks to a more sedentary lifestyle due to TV, computers and school lock downs. Some schools don't even allow outdoor recess anymore for fear the kids will get hurt.

My kids aren't allowed to "vegetate" on front of those things on a daily basis. Part of being a kid is getting outside to play!

You sound like a good Mother. Recently I was reading about a small rural community in Maine where the school children are allowed to sled outside during recess in the winter months. A rarity in this day and age.

have you been to Europe or anywhere else though? We're grossly more obese then almost anyone else on earth.

Strangely I can pick off the Americans overseas when I travel (around 6 times a year) because they're the only really fat people.

Obviously not all of them are fat, but on average more than other people. We definitely have more REALLY fat people than I've ever seen anywhere else. Like the morbidly obese people, you really don't find them other places on earth very often. Not like here if you walk through a wal-mart or a mall. My friend from Amsterdam was literally in shock when I took him to wal-mart. He said he'd never seen anything like that in his 30 years of living, all the *really* huge people. He wanted to take pictures to show people at home, haha.
