Sorry to (once again) post up a race-related thread, but I had the yearning to ask this for the longest time. This was inspired by a recent thread, "States that are racist in 2008 - not 1850." Now I know there are a couple of places where many people (some of these places rave about their "diversity" and "liberalism") who use the broad-brush-technique and view all minorities under one (or a few) characteristic, usually negative ones. But there are more places and people who are just sick of negative tendencies of a subset of people for sound reasons (i.e. extremist racial pride, a ghetto-mentality, illegal immigration) but will give the exception and even an open-arms welcome to individuals who don't fit the mold, regardless of being a different skin color. So my main question is this:

Which cities and states and states have people whose tendency is to use the broad judgmental mentality to view minorities. And which cities and states have the tendency to just criticize extremist, subset negative-stereotypical behavior while treating minorities who don't fit the stereotypical image as equal and welcomed citizens?

Jackson, Mississippi. They have some of the most ignorant people in the world (I won't generalize Jackson because there are friendly people like any other city). When I past through downtown so I could make my way to Ridgeland (Grandma lives there), people were just staring at me strangely.

All states. There is no one state where racisim doesn't exist. However extreme cases of racsim seem to exist in California, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

You seem to be implying that there are "good" stereotypers of minorities out there - those that soundly (?) attribute behavior/ class/ status to negative racial idealogies (you use "subset negative-stereotypical behavior") yet still so "benevolently" 'open their arms' to minorities that assimilate to their own cultural views and philosophies. I don't see the difference that you're trying to illustrate; rather, I find the second view more offensive as it sounds like it would come from people that are educated enough to know better...
