Can anyone list which towns or cities have the worst reputation of the Keeping up with the Jones's philosophy. A type of place that totally gives you the impression people are out to compete with you? Any stories

The whole Metro-Detroit suburbs! Too many city names to list.

Heck, any suburb in general. That sums it up well!

The entire NYC-metro area. Heaven forbid you do not have the latest and greatest of everything - electronics, cars, clothes, accessories, and of course a great big McMansion.

Anywhere with wealth almost, suburbs, places with low crime.

Southern California.

The Bay Area.

..And, Introducing the capital: Orange County. (Newport, Laguna, Irvine, Aliso Viejo, Yorba Linda, RSM, MV,.. talk about keeping up jeez!) As a kid in middle school, you WILL be shunned for not getting dropped off in either a Mercedes or BMW. I should know.

In SoCal not only do you need the Burberry, and Gucci hand bag, but the face lift, eye lift, and six-pack
Well I have the 6 pack...I'm not sure if you need Miller or Bud though, please clarify.

In all seriousness, I'd say that just about any Suburb has that attitude. Where I live has that mentality and it's quite annoying. Want to hear a funny story?

I known 2 families that live next door to each other (about 6 blocks from my home), both are very nice (and well-off) and I've known them each for a long time. With that being said; THEY ARE COMPLETE LUNATICS! They CONSTANTLY try to out-do each other in every category. Last year family A bought a new Lexus SUV and literally 2 weeks later family B bought a new Cadillac Escalade. Just recently family A bought a new boat (yes...we have lakes here in Arizona) and suprise suprise, family B bought an even larger boat with a cabin.

I've had them each over before and guess what they do, complain about the other family! I find it comical but it does get old. I really don't know why they feel the need to out-do and out-spend each other, it seems childish and pointless.

I second the Bay Area... love my hometown, but there's a definite "keeping up with the Jones'" attitude out here!! I don't let it get to me, but I see many people who do - like my friends who over-spend & live beyond their means.

Isn't it hilarious, love it. I like watching these suburban people spend all there money on high priced liabilities. Then you wonder why they complain they cant afford to live there anymore and flee to lower cost states.

I'm quite frankly very glad I did not grow up around that. The areas I've lived over the course of my life have had there problems, but 'keeping up with the jonses' have never been one of them. Honestly, it is something I've never really understood.
