I was born, raised and currently live in western KY, and I was wondering what the rest of the south's view of kentucky is....southern or not, likes and dislikes about KY, anything really....

I personally think that kentucky is definately southern. I mean I live almost right on the border of ky and indiana and you can really tell the difference when you cross the river. Just sit in a restaraunt in KY and then go to IN and you'll see what I mean. But not only the accents but the whole lifestyle and culture is southern. Tell me what you think!

I consider most of KY to be in the "south", but Louisville and the area outside of Cincinnati don't seem that way to me, for some reason. Certainly Western Kentucky feels the same way that Middle TN does to me. Easygoing, farming communities, good people...just like Mid TN.

KY is definitely part of the South. I'll have to agree with DonCorleone partially, I think Louisville is definitely southern (with a lot of transplants) but northern KY around Cincinnati might as well be southern Ohio. I went to college in Kentucky and have many friends that live in northern KY/Cincinnati area. Most of them from Northern KY always, when asked where they were from, said they were from "Cincinnati". One famous Kentuckian, Dave Justice, is notorious for this. On a side note, you could probably go ahead and add southern Indiana as an area that feels pretty southern also.

I've only been in nashville for a couple years, but I've always viewed everything south of Columbus as the south(but that's probably the clevelander in me)

That's almost exactly the way I feel. I would say louisville is more southern than lets say indianapolis but not like nashville. I've only been to the cincinnati are once so i cant really say much about that. I'm from western kentucky so, i can vouch for it being southern, and it is alot of farming communities. Half my family are farmers.

haha well we've had for a little while now. Just tryin to get used to it. That reminds me of a story of when my sister and her friend went down to florida and this bartender asked where they were from because of their accent and they said KENTUCKY, he looked down and said, "but you two have shoes on". So i guess quite a few people think of kentuckians as just poor ole mountain folk, makin moonshine and running around with no shoes on their dirt floor...

When I was down in that area, I didn't have to get too far into Kentucky -- no further than Alexandria -- to tell that I was in a different area, right down to an instant change in accent.
