I would love to hear about some weird festivals from the state you are from.
Try to not just list the festival but explain what it also is about.

For instance

North Carolina
Hollerin Contest Festival
Holler!

YouTube - Hollerin' Contest 2007

“Spivey’s Corner, North Carolina has a population of about 50 people. But, on National Hollerin’ Contest Day , an estimated 5,000-10,000 people come to enjoy the annual National Hollerin’ Contest. Can you imagine the honor of winning this contest!? Its definitely something to yell about.”

I have nothing to do with this, but it sure sounds like fun to me:

Mystery Weekend in Langley
Langley, Washington, USA
February 23 - February 24, 2007

Description:
A MYSTERY WEEKEND ON WHIDBEY ISLAND Langley is a small, waterfront town on Whidbey Island just north of Seattle. The town was founded in the late 1800s and is now an artist's colony home to national and international writers, painters, sculptors, glass artists, actors, and dancers. The downtown is only three blocks by two blocks and the population is only about 950 residents. The Mystery Weekend started as a way for these very creative Islanders to relieve winter "rock fever" (a restlessness known in snowy areas as "cabin fever"). The "Mystery" is a two day interactive play which takes place all over the little town. It is written by local authors and involves live local actors roaming the streets as well as additional "suspects" including the mayor, the police chief, shop keepers, the librarian, and basically the whole town. When it started in 1984 it was so much fun for the town that many locals invited their off-island friends to participate and the event has grown to be popular with visitors from throughout the region. Langley's Mystery Weekend is held on the last weekend of February each year. Participants pick up mystery play packets at the Visitor Center starting at 10 AM on Saturday. The packet includes a newspaper with stories about the crime, photos of suspects involved in the mystery, a map showing the location of the scene of the crime, and locations where clues can be found. Participants then go around town collecting clues and interviewing the actors who are roaming the streets. After they decide who they think the criminal is, they submit their solution entry form back at the Visitor Center (solutions must be in by 4PM on Sunday afternoon). On Sunday evening at 4:30 PM, the "detective" gathers the "suspects" on the stage of the theater and confronts the criminal. Entry forms with the correct guess are then entered in a drawing for prizes prizes ranging from weekend getaways to mystery novels.

While not really a festival, one of the weirdest things i can think of is the Philadelphia Mummers Parade (Mummers Parade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Basically what happens is that grown men get dressed up in very weird feathery/glittery costumes, get really drunk, and parade through Philadelphia playing in their bands.

Here's 2 video clips:

We just traveled though Cuba, N.Y., which also has a garlic festival.

Ohio has a slew of festivals in its small towns, from sauerkraut to tobacco to pork rinds. These will give you a list of some of them:

Ohio Festivals and Ohio Events Guide for Ohio Festivals and Events in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, etc.

North East, Pa., has a Cherry Festival, where it crowns a Cherry Queen. I'll let you decide what to think about that.

I've never been to Gilroy, just heard about it from friends. The Ostrich Festival seemed like a city festival with an ostrich motif. I remember ostrich rides?

I know that it's mainly a Scandanavian sport, but Maine hosts the North American "Wife Carrying" Championship.

Winner gets the wife's weight in beer and triple the weight in cash?
