I've had to describe my hometown of Minneapolis to some Europeans recently and finally fell into saying "well it's a bit like Frankfurt with Berlin's art scene, but half the size and friendlier and colder" - I don't know how accurate that is but that's as close as I could come and they seemed satisfied (and if I'm off base, please tell me what Minneapolis is really similar to). Its sister city St. Paul seems sort of like Cologne, pretty but sleepy.
I also think Washington D.C. is like a 3rd world city - one of those old colonial showpieces that have deteriorated since decolonization. I guess in a very real sense D.C. is a colonial possession :P
The only other city I've been to is Houston but I just can't place where that would be similar to anything, its to iconic generic American, but I only saw the Downtown region and the airport.
As much as I'd like to think Atlanta is similar to Tokyo, realistically they are very different. The only similarity I can think of is numerous skylines with hyper-modern architecture, but Los Angeles also has that and is more similar to Tokyo with its density. I can't think of what other world city Atlanta could be compared to. Johannesburg, South Africa maybe?
Frankfurt is a world finance capital with tons of skyscrapers and the largest commercial airport in Europe, one of the busiest in the whole world. I cannot think of anything it shares in common with Omaha except that neither has a reputation for excitement.
