I'm looking to rent a single room in a cottage (1) beside a lake backdropped by mountains (B) surrounded by forest (C) to be within 30 minutes driving distance to a city (with cafes, bookstores, library, museums).

I'd really like to emphasize I am NOT seeking to live in a residential area on a lakeshore with tons of neighbors and a handful of trees with a shopping center around the corner. I really want to feel that I'm living in nature, yet have the ability to drive in to the city for employment and socializing.

I am flexible regarding weather, so long as the place gets a healthy amount of sunshine.

I find myself coming across: Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Denver (CO) as possible cities to which I'd be commuting. As I stated above, I don't want to live IN the city, so I am very much stuck with discovering which neighboring areas may fit my description. I am NOT limiting myself to the West Coast or these particular states - just a start in the research process.

This is where YOU come in. Have you heard of or visited any particular places that might help me fulfill my vision? Thanks in advance for reading and your suggestions are much appreciated.

Bailey, CO - outside Denver; Westcliffe, CO - a hop, skip, and jump from Pueblo. Beautiful areas, both. Good Luck!
