charlotte...good god charlotte lol.
just not a huge VA beach fan, its kinda worn down, kinda based around naval bases and tourism. Charlotte is awesome, with lots of beautiful suburbs including my favorite charlotte suburb of mooresville and lake norman area. good schools and lots of things to do in my opinion. Sure its no DC, Miami, LA or NYC kinda deal...but its a good place i think to live.

I've only been to Virginia Beach once, it seemed pretty nice, though I didn't go downtown.

How is the downtown in Charlotte - is it lively or dead? Looking at the statistics it's the 19th most populous city in America.

Are we talking the metro areas, or the cities themselves?
I must agree that Charlotte has alot going for it. Can't deny that. But someone above mentioned the suburbs of Charlotte. If you include Charlotte's suburbs, then you have to include the cities surrounding Virginia Beach (Hampton Roads) and not just the city of VB itself.

I agree that Charlotte has better jobs, cleaner, etc... but it is pretty much the same as Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, etc.. but smaller. VA Beach is unique b/c of the beaches, rivers and history. Depends on what you you like.

Also, downtown aka "Uptown" Charlotte is dead at night during the week but pretty lively during the weekends. It's nice, clean and pretty safe.

Charlotte has more of a yuppie/white collar population
While the tidewater area (VA Beach/Norfolk) has a more working class/blue collar population
Not saying either is better than the other; just take that for what its worth.
