am done with Cali. I am looking to move to a city that would be:
- not too sunny. I prefer overcast, though not gloomy and dark. SF when is overcast is my fave.
- that will not cause me to use the heater much. It makes my throat swell, but maybe that has to do with living in Sacramento smog, maybe in a city with cleaner air I would not have that problem.
- the least possible amount of insects (This is very important due to TWO bad experiences, not counting the apt where I woke up with a bat on my neck)
- quiet, at least at the place where I live.
- not one of those places that are terrible for allergy sufferers because hey, I'm an allergy sufferer.
- not outrageously expensive, no more New Yorks or Californias for me. I hate being nickeled and dimed and everybody around me thinking $$$ just because they have to in order to survive.
- low crime
- condos or townhouses that I could rent that are new construction
- I'm single so somewhere I could meet a quality SO
_ I telecommute so I will make the same amount of $ anywhere.
After S.F. and Seattle let me down and I wanted to move back east, I was looking for that place too. I found it:
Don't let the blue sky in the pic fool you, it's the cloudiest city outside the Northwest. Hilliest outside of San Francisco, too, with twice as many steps.

I thought I'd create a little mystery by not naming it, since most people visualize a smoking, industrial ruin. That image of it is only about 50 years out of date.
I took both of these from atop an overlook/park in the West End neighborhood of PGH. It was a super nice day. I am, however, a fan of cloudy Pittsburgh

Chicago...a notably cheaper/lower-taxed version of SF/LA/NYC, w/many positive attributes of the coastal powers: powerful economy and many well-educated, young professionals...lots of new condo towers (w/cheap rentals vs CA/NYC); arguably better restaurants than SF/LA; awful winters and hot/humid summers; flat topography, but would argue Chic's dramatic skyline vs LkMI is as intriguing a physical setting as SF or coastal LA, though quite different....
SF/LA (Westside)....one pays steep rents/taxes for near-perfect coastal weather (and minimal insects)....ultimate regions (weather, topography) for car nuts...
Many cities are far cheaper....there are many reasons why....
