Pot/Kettle?
Because New York, Boston, and Philly are in such dramatic disrepair... I know I'm being really original by saying this, but it needs to be said again apparently. I'm sure Charlotte, Wilmington and Raleigh are all charming cities, but they aren't comparable to the cities in the Northeast in terms of size, culture, and history. I'm sure that's all the poster meant.

Having lived in both (though only very briefly in NC) I pick NJ hands down. The two are very different places. I like to visit NC but living there is not for me.

yet another completely off base generalization about my poor little state, lol. i'm quoting an old post, but NJ is generally not a crime ridden place on the whole. Once you get outside your Newarks and Camdems (which REALLY skew any rankings), it's pretty darn safe. A lot of NJ towns routinely make the Top XXX safest in the nation. The crime here is pretty much isolated to "bad" areas, which are *easily* avoidable.

Most of my extended fam are from the Carolinas (notably NC). Although I actually like NC for what it is, I'm just too built for NJ. NC has too laid back a style that I can't really adapt to. I'm used to being able to get to a diner in under 10 min no matter where I am LOL. The peeps are cool though

Given the size of NC versus NJ, NC should have passed NJ a long time ago. Hell, NJ shouldn't even be in the top dozen most populated

One of those old old nice brownstones in downtown Jersey City and a summer place on Long Beach Island and maybe a small cabin up there in the hills by the NY/PA border
You said money was no object right???

If money was no object I would be living in a gingerbread victorian house in Cape May, New Jersey.

Actually NJ should be highly populated considering it borders two of the biggest cities in the country.

Ditto-----and, the weather is much, much better in NC, at least the eastern part of the state.
I will admit if I ever decided to leave Arizona and head E of the Rockies, it would likely be near Greenville NC or similar-----that is how comfortable NC was to me when I visited many years ago
