Hey all,

I currently live in Phoenix but am moving to either Denver or Minneapolis (we haven't made up our mind yet) within the next six months. We recently completed a road trip to Denver and Minneapolis and drove through many states along the way.

I am a native Californian and after having driven in Phoenix for four years, I am used to crazy drivers who drive like maniacs... Phoenix drivers are horrible- they drive dangerously fast, cut you off without a second thought, never use turn signals and honk their horns constantly. The drivers in Denver were also crazy (not as bad as Phoenix, but still crazy). As we traveled further east into the midwest, I couldn't beleive the polite mentality of the drivers- I was truly astounded by the drivers in Minnepolis.... people actually obeyed the speed limit, used their turn signals and politely let people in. I never heard a single person honk their horn- a total change from Phoenix. This got me to thinking, what cities do you think have the best and worst drivers?

Check out Southeastern PA.

I try not to leave the house anymore, lol These people are the worst drivers I have ever seen out of the 15 or so states I've been to.

..and I USED TO live in NYC!!

The people in general are just fundamentally defective around here. I don't know why it is, but if I can do it I avoid them. We're moving at some point. Just trying to decide whether or not it's to another state, or another country entirely.

ATLANTA!

Not only do they drive 5 inches from each other, they do it at full speed. In most cities traffic jams are annoying. In ATL it's scary!
Looks like this:

What you feel like's going to happen to you at any second:

People in Boston drive like F1 drivers on crack. I'd much rather drive in New York or Chicago than with those guys.

I've never had the 'pleasure' of driving out west, so I don't know what you guys out there so.

I don't know what a F1 driver is, J33, but driving in Boston is nutz.

NJ is quite mad as well, but it might be the round-abouts that get me the most.

There is a thread in NM talking about driving, and I'd say drivers are reckless here--but not as bad as the Bean.

I currently live in Minneapolis, I agree with the original poster... the drivers in the MSP metro area are extremely safe and courteous- sometimes aggrivatingly so. I used to live in Atlanta- there are lots of crazy drivers there. Atlanta drivers however, are saints compared to the drivers in Houston- driving on freeways through just about any major city in Texas is terrifying, you breathe a sigh of releif when you make it off the freeway alive! The cops in Texas don't really enforce the speed limit and it seems the drivers take full advantage. It's not unusual to see cars passing you at 90 or 100 mph in a 60 mph zone, changing lanes violently. California drivers have also well earned their reputation as some of the country's worst.

I think the top 3 worst would be Atlanta, Dallas, and Boston (not in that order).

Some of the rudest drivers in the US/world can be found in Atlanta.
They do not use turn signals. They do talk on cell phones while driving and it is very scary. Lots of road construction and the road rage builds.

Yesterday--6:30 AM a man kissed his wife and left for work. His car broke down on an interstate highway. No emergency lane --due to construction--and he could not pull the car off the road. He was trying to start the car and was hit from behind --4 times. Killed. Authorities do not believe charges will be filed...

Back in the summer --in the early AM a tractor trailer overturned---the area practically closed down for the entire day.

Although I am not familiar with Boston, I am very familiar with Dallas and Atlanta. In both of these cities there has been an increase in vehicle traffic far greater than any expectation that has totally overwhelmed the infrastructure. There are simply not enough roads for the traffic load and it gets worse every day. Drivers have reacted with more aggressive behavior. There is no improvement in sight.
