I live in Chi-town as of now. Born and raised. I am looking to move to a mid-sized city( 400,000 to 1,000,000 total) or a nice suburb outside of a mid-sized city.

Can anyone list a few just to help me get my brainstorm process going.

Chi is nice but I am tired of this place.\\

What part of the country are you interested in?
Raleigh,NC
Greensboro,NC
Richmond,VA
Pitsburgh
Providence,RI
Columbus,OH
Indianapolis

Some of the cities I metioned are below 400,000 but have a large metro area that can make up for that

What are you looking for in this particular place?, That would be the first question I'll ask...

Affordable housing, low crime, possibly a town with a fishing lake and bike trails. I do not mind living in a small town as long as it is near a major city.

What are your priorities for the place you move to? Off the top of my head, I'd recommend suburban NYC--Fairfield County CT has all amenities of any mid-size city suburb with much smaller-town feelings and vibes. Great quality of life, but cost is way up there.

Affordable is a top priority. Living in the "popular' cities is just a waste of money. I do not care how many things there are to do in the major cities, i'll never do everything anyway. As long as I live outside of a major city and it's affordable that's good enough. It would be nice to live outside of NYC but it's not going to be cheap.

Single
no children

ChicagoRon. What is your price range for single family housing or apartments?

I'd recommend Omaha. It's on the up and not far from Chicago if you still want to be close to family.
