I think it's pretty hard to top California, though it's hardly fair, since California encompasses so much geographical area.
I wrote an entire paragraph about why I think California is the most beautiful, but I realized that I had already written it too many times in this forum, and most of you have heard it all before anyway (and it seems you don't want to hear it anymore...).
So, I'll just say it's because of the Sierra Nevada.
California, Washington, Oregon, and Southwest Virginia
I voted for one, but I think every state has something to offer, but I pick these as my favorites in random order (even if there is a cityscape involved):
Hawaii - Kauai, Volcanos National Park (Big Island), Molokai (sea cliffs), Honolulu and Waikiki (at night)
Arizona - Sedona, Grand Canyon, sunsets in Tucson, snow on the sahuaros
California - San Francisco & the Golden Gate Bridge, wine country, Lake Tahoe
Wyoming - Yellowstone National Park
Alaska - SE Peninsula
Nevada - The lights of Las Vegas at night, Lake Mead
Vermont, Maine (Greenville), and New Hampshire - In the Autumn & Winter
Colorado - The Rockies
Oregon - The northern coast
Illinois - Flying over Chicago and Lake Michigan at nighttime
California would be the most beautiful state if it didn't have so much friggin suburban sprawl ruining all it's mountains.
Utah, Oregon, and Tennessee for me.
That's not true in the Sierras, (unless you consider the Rockies also ruined by Suburban sprawl). Took this picture last week near where I live. No suburban sprawl in sight. California is full of wide open spaces.
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. I have been to most of the states in this country including California (not Hawaii, though), and to me the most beautiful are Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.
Maine, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire... of the ones I've been to.
Washington was okay.
Haven't been there yet, but I rarely see an ugly picture of Alaska.
All states have something nice.
