First, a black person or any other person living in LA would have to have twice the income of someone in Atlanta just to live the same because of the much much higher cost of living out there. Second, blacks are drawn to Atlanta not just because of the income but because of the power and influence blacks have in Atlanta.

Blacks in L.A. are very much a minority. There are more Hispanics, Asians, and Whites in L.A. than blacks making them only the 4th largest ethnic group. Where as in Atlanta blacks are in the majority and hold alot of political, corporate, and entreprenual power.

I wonder why it matters that in LA, Blacks are the 4th largest ethnic group? There are still over 1 Million blacks in LA. Hardly invisible.

It matters because blacks in LA is the 4th largest ethnic group in a metro area of 17 million compared to it being the 2nd largest ethnic group in a metro area of 5.6 million people. LA's black population is small compared to the rest of the metro area while Atlanta's black population is huge compared to the rest of the metro area. Simply as that. Not to mention that Atlanta is in the south. A region that has half of this country's black opulation and Atlanta is seen as the center of that region and Atlanta has been a magnet for black Americans for decades. Unless you're trying to be an actor or a model, if you're looking to be a politician, own a business, and seek more power and influence like Galounger said, Atlanta is the city to go to over LA. Blacks has a much larger significant presence in Atlanta than blacks do in Los Angeles. It is a reason why Atlanta is constantly voted as one of the top cities if not the top city for Black Americans.

I wasn't aware that DC had so many black households. Would DC metro areas include Balitmore as well?
Well DC-Baltimore CSA has the 2nd largest black population in the nation behind NYC. The area also is home to Prince George's County in Maryland which home to the most affluent blacks in the country. DC is VERY VERY VERY similar to Atlanta and many people do not know it.

I came across this thread, in case anyone is interested, I actually took that data and figured out which metropolitan areas have the highest percent of black households that make 200,000 + compared with total black households.

I do think this is significant, in that America can only truly get passed race and ethnicity when the income gap between what different demographic groups is narrowed. And the ones that are higher on this list are ones that I find to be a major factor on level of "world class"

While both have very large black populations, Atlanta's MSA is substantially blacker than DC's MSA and DC's MSA is substantially more Asian and Hispanic than Atlanta's MSA; at the CSA level, things are closer, but DC and Baltimore pretty separate metro areas.

DC's CSA has nearly 3 times the concentration of >200k black households of Atlanta's CSA. This disparity would be even more pronounced on the MSA level, since the Baltimore MSA and outlying areas have lots of lower income blacks.

Los Angeles used to have the 5th largest black population from the 1940s at least up till the mid 1990s. Sadly, many are leaving for the South and now LA has the 7th largest black population.

The causes behind this are white gentrification, Latin and Asian immigration, and biases in jobs.

I see your point and why many think Atlanta is where a lot of black americans want to be. I have lived here for 5 years and now, there are more black people moving here than the city can hold.

However, I must respectfully disagree with the notion of black moving back to the south and Atlanta. Many people leave here to go back home, wether it be: Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, New York Detroit or et cetera. This city is not what many think, and most of the black people here struggle even with the low cost of living. Black people are only moving here because it literally takes nothing to survive. An on the same token, people here hate this city, nobody claims this city as where they are from even after they have been here for a few years. Black people here compete with one another, and do everything in there power to keep majority of blacks down and out. This is not a forward thinking city that will help you start a business. Blacks and white people here are internally racist towards black people. There is a huge struggle because so many people here want the success of a New York, LA, San fran, Miami and et cetera but not able to see there dreams come true because people here aren't interested in helping you. All people do here is, especially the black people is throw religion on you and make you wait for a miracle that will never happen. Yeah there are a few black people here making money, but theres only a few that has real money like those boys in Detroit, LA, New York.

All in all, Black people would be better served staying in LA, New York or Chicago. The white people in Atlanta are internally racist and rarely do business with black people unless they have no choice. An the black people in Atlanta would rather do business for the majority with white people. Which put a struggle on understanding that this city is mostly black, and I still can't get any business.

Most of the people in Atlanta don't want to be there, trust me, they just can't afford the real lives and luxury of cities that will embrace you for being intelligent, well spoken and a extremely hard worker.

An for corporate, look it up and see how many black people who positions at the big corporations in Atlanta (Georgia Pacific, Coca Cola, Hooters, Twin Peaks, Southern Company, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, Weather Channel, All your banks, your financial district in bulkhead, your consulting jobs, majority of your sales/Account Executive Jobs)....98% white, and those are the jobs that allow you to live how you want.....

A bunch of black people in one spot HAS NEVER BEEN A GOOD THING and never will!

Historically Black Colleges Kill america and the south, and it destroys anything Atlanta can be. It hurts the mindset of kids, making them look down on other races and indirectly teaches them hate internally towards white people.

I'm telling you what I know, and not what i heard.
