How are you planning to remember 9/11?
unfortunately i have to be on the road for most of the day tomorrow but when i see a aircraft, flag, police officer or fireman i will be sure to pay my respects to the victims of the worst tragedy in american history.

For the past week, two bright beams of light have been shining into the sky from the WTC site. I can see them now from my bedroom window. I find a lot of the documentaries/docu-dramas, books, etc. about 9/11 are a little distasteful, so I avoid them. And I'd rather not see what cheesy programming the news networks will have on.
Last year I went to Eagle Rock Reservation, a rocky outcropping in NJ 600 feet in the air, and just stared at the beams of light in silence, watching others come and leave flowers, candles, etc. This year I may walk down to the riverfront to do the same. I don't like feeling that I have to "do" something to "remember." But going out alone to reflect does something for me.

Being half middle eastern i have a hard time with it. There's alot behind the situation that still hasn't been uncovered. I remember that day so well.... never will forget it but like john_starks says.... lets move on with life. there is so much going on in the world, though it was an American tragedy.... people in other countries face it daily. RIP to every life lost.
PS Im actually flying tomorrow.

I am going to remember a time when we all were just Americans and we were together. It will be a day of new beginnings for me tomorrow. Plan like you are going to live forever, live like you are going to die tomorrow. Make each day count. That will honor those who died that day. Let's all do what we can to make a better America and make positive changes the best we can for the entire world. God bless you all.

I'm a firefighter, but I'm not on duty on 9/11. I don't mind the books or documentaries that were made. I've learned a lot about them. It's actually something I enjoy studying. I by no means am happy that it happened. I mean we lost a little over 100 firefighters every year. We lost 343 on that day. However, it's like when most people read about about wars. But this is during my generation. So there is a lot that can help me be a better person and a better firefighter. At this time next year, I may even be a DC Firefighter.

We have a post about this over on the Jersey forum... I'm glad to see that someone posted about it here. I think we have to respect this day - krudmonk - not very respectful...
It was only 7 years ago folks, and it was a mass murder and an attack on our country. I live not far from the towers and I think unless you live in one of the areas hit, you just don't know how real it was. YES, of course life goes on and you know, it always does. But we should take a moment to pause and remember .... the fact that so many do not speaks so sadly of what is contemporary American society.
I too avoid a lot of the films and documentaries. I've read enough, seen enough, lived enough. But to let the lessons learned on that day - or after any other event like it - to let them just go is an insult to those who died and those who valiantly respond when the need arose.
I know there is so much bad that came after the attacks too - but that is for another day. Remember the lives LOST today - the rest can wait until tomorrow.

Yes, I agree with taking a moment or a few minutes to remember and pay respects, all based on individual need or feelings. But I must respectfully disagree that the world should stop today in honor of this tragedy. I realize for the people that live / work near the three crash sites, this would be a tougher day than for many others of us. I don't see where going about your normal routine today is a sad commentary on society.
