We've gone over this a thousand times. Every thread is going to give you the same answers. The Northeast USED to be New England and New York... Today, the Northeast has grown and expanded down to NoVa. NoVa's not 100% Northeastern, but certain parts especially closer to DC have become Northeasternized.
Northeast:
New England
New York
New Jersey
Pennsylvania
Maryland
Delaware
Washington, DC
NoVA
Southeastern:
south of NoVA
When I went to Alrington Nat'l Cemetery, I felt like I was in Boston or something. It felt very patriotic, very historic, very northern, and the attitude was more northern. People were more tense in and around DC which also boosts the fact that the Northeast has expanded and DC is a Northeastern area. The buildings, landmarks, and museums have a more Northeastern flavor because most of the country's national landmarks are in the Northeast.
Even geographically, on the map I see the Potomac River and it seems to be a clearly visible and logical natural border between the North and South today.
Location: from houstoner to bostoner to new yorker to new jerseyite ;)

That's great you're from Virginia and seem to know your atlas. Yes, Texas is out west to you geographically. But West Texas is more western and East Texas is more southern, and then there's South Texas which is more like Far North Mexico. Texas is a big state! No matter how you try to characterize it and whittle it down, it doesn't belong in any single region except its own. Texas is Texas. Sorry to disappoint.

Lee's Home in Arlington looks Southron to me, lol !

Of course, because NoVA was once a southern area. NYC and the area has many Dutch colonials from when it was New Amsterdam, now it's no longer Dutch. But the homes remain.
