I see New York declining. Mayor Bloomberg was on last Sunday's Meet the Press and he looked like he was crying over spilled milk. I wonder why he was in Washington during the week? Perhaps to beg for money, forgiveness, or something?
East guy - You are totally off base. A couple of points here. First DC is not conservative or stodgy by any means. It's one of the most liberal/democratic places in the US. DC votes 95% democrat in every election. Second, DC is about money just as much as NYC. Have you been keeping score with the election. Lobbyist = Big Dollars. Interns are a minuscule part of DC. DC is about who you know and cashing in on your connections to get something done. It's about backroom deals and treating your favorite Congressman or Senator to a $25,000 a plate dinner at a social event. DC is all about money & power. When some big wig on Wall Street needs something done (deregulation), they call on DC.
NYC is the financial capital of the US but DC is the political capital. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.

This is one of the most ludicrous sentences I've ever read. Of course a DC newspaper would be pimping the saintliness of itself, but come on. People are in the DC political game for 1) booty calls and/or 2) power.
I wonder if eastguy also realizes that the suburbs of DC (northern VA) are home to the wealthiest counties in the nation, so how exactly is it not about making money?
