Go to the Salt Lake City forum and read some of the old posts. You'll see some insightfulness on the lives of Salt Lake City folks and how they try hard to keep up with the joneses. In fact, try to do a search with the words "up with the joneses", you may get some interesting threads.

I'm in Chicago, certainly not stressed! Strange list....seems like more of the Forbes BS lists just to have another random list.

Ok....the reasons Chicago was ranked so high was partially due to:

High population density

Weather

Air Quality

Gas Prices

I'm sorry, but what? I choose to live in Chicago very much BECAUSE it has a high population density. I love that about the city. Certainly not high stress. People who don't like Chicago weather enough will just move away. Yeah, I don't love those days when it's freezing, but the other 90% of the year makes up for those when it's 10 degrees outside. It's not like we're stuck here with the weather! I'm pretty sure Chicago isn't the worst air quality in the country by any means. I've never actually heard a lot about us having poor air. It's fairly breezy from the west, and all our heavy pollutants are to the southeast. Gas prices? I would think with a transit system in the city and suburbs that can deliver 2.2 million rides every weekday, that should actually lower stress levels. I'd rather have high gas prices with hundreds of train stations and bus lines that run every 7 minutes than live in an area that forces you to drive no matter what.

It kinda seems like this list would be stressful cities to a person who loves low density, car dependant places with warm weather. That's fairly restricting.

When the local news did a story on this the other day not a single San Diegan agreed with it and said pretty much the opposite. If people are stressed here then they sure don't show it. Forbes also listed us as one of the most obese cities too I think and from my observations that is anything but true, there just aren't a whole lot of fat people where I live at all.

Some of these Forbes lists seem suspect many times. High density living would probably only be stressful to people that don't like that, but many people do prefer that obviously.

I don't really buy that some of the cities listed are the most stressful in the US.

I would agree with the list, although I would swap Boston for Philly. I have spent alot of time in 5 of those cities and the people definitely seemed to be experiencing a high degree of anxiety.
