And for the record the Metric system was NOT around when this was being discussed in the first Congress meeting in 1789. The metric system was introduced in France sometime in the 1790's and was adopted as the official form of Measurement in 1795 (then dropped after a few years because it was too confusing for the French people, after which they tried it again in the 1830's). The system Jefferson was proposing was based on his own thoughts, with the foot being 10 inches and the other measurements being based on factors of 10; like a gallon of waters weight being equal to 1000 ounces. In reality he didn't squash the idea at all, but the Congress (then like now) just didn't act on the decision and that left the Country free to use EITHER of the systems. When the Metric system came along, they also left it up to the people to decide what system they wanted to use. We CAN use the metric system if we want to, we just don't want to. Read up on your history before trying to come across as knowing what you are talking about.
Oh, and Psst, your also bragging up Celsius is making you look like a fool. The official metric measurement of temperature is the Kelvin scale and NOT Celsius.

Please just move to EUROPE, PLEASE!!!! I don't mean to sound rude, but you ask a lot of random questions. Your biggest concern about moving to LA was that the palm trees were not as diverse as Florida. Not one mention of crime, transportation, neighborhoods, jobs, shopping, etc... in your question about So Cal like most people have. Then you moved to the general forum were the most important thing seems to be the metric system. It seems like you are disturbed by it, like it keeps you up at night or something. Do you loose sleep because we have the metric system? Do you have a difficult time eating because of it? What is the big deal?
I agree the metric system makes more sense, but changing it after our current system has been around so long makes even less sense in my opinion. British Airways is running a fare sale to London right now and I think seat 20B is calling out your name.
OMG. For reference he is using a post from another inane thread he started about metric and US measurement. At least get it right kid, we DON'T use the Imperial system here in the US, we use the US measurement system which is slightly different than the Imperial system.
Well, so far no one has broken any "rules" in the thread (though it gets overdone).
Might I just suggest that if people fell they must talk about it, they ONLY add to the discussion if they can logically and sanely list the pros and cons of each system? (otherwise, just let it fade away).
