I read a list of the most dangerous cities in America and Memphis, TN; Birmingham, AL; and North Charleston, South Carolina were all on there if I'm not mistaken.
According to Morgan Quitno Press, the following Southern cities are among the 25 most dangerous in the US:
6. Birmingham
13. Memphis
15. Richmond
17. Atlanta
20. North Charleston SC
23. Little Rock
25. Orlando
Keep in mind that these rankings aren't completely reliable because law enforcement agencies don't always report crimes the same way from one city to another. Still, we can be sure that each of those cities has a pretty high crime rate no matter how they're actually ranked.
Are there any nice cities in the US with little crime? Here our cities can't compare to the US ones, well for one we don't get gun crime and don't have the poverty that the US has either - which i've witnessed.

Scots, let's just say that your cities have populations that are generally not prone to crime.
Other notables:
Atlanta, Durham, Miami, Orlando, Richmond, Mobile, Jackson, Savannah, Houston, Dallas, Norfolk, Jacksonville, Charlotte, Greesnsboro, Columbia, Charleston, Tallahassee, Montgomery, Little Rock, Macon, Augusta, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Chattanooga, Louisville. Most medium to large southern cities.
There are a few exceptions to the high crime rule:
Johnson City, TN
Asheville, NC
Lexington, KY
Greenville, SC
Huntsville, AL
Lynchburg, VA
There are a few that are not high crime, but not low crime, either.
