It's not negativity, it's practicality. Considering that unemployment is the highest in five years, it was good advice. I'm afraid people will have to quit being Goldielocks's and demanding that everything be "just right" and make do with living in the place they can get the best, most secure job.

No coldwine has a point. These points are too general. I always shake my head when people say, "Help me find a city" and list a bunch of preferences but don't necessarily say specifically what cities they're considering. It would help if people say something like, "I'm looking at moving to Salt Lake City or Denver. Here are the qualities I want in my city......[insert qualities here] Does anyone know about these cities? Which would be the better fit?" That's okay. But just listing off things you want from cities and then saying, Where in the U.S. can I find these cities is ridiculous.

This board is so full of clueless people who can't take the time to research where they live that I wonder how people moved before the creation of the internet and citydata.

No it is negativity and judgmental . If someone want to move somewhere for whatever reasons, that is their right and their prerogative. You're not their parent or have any authority to tell someone what they should and shouldn't do based on what you think they should do. If one wants to move to a city that is exciting with good weather over a city that has the best job opportunities then that is their prerogative, let them worry about their financial situation. This forum gets threads like this all the time, I don't get what the hell the problem is with you and Coldwine with them all of a suddenly.

i'm basically everything you said. 30 years old, want to live my life and have fun, but still be fast paced and successful.

chicago fit the bill perfectly for me, never been happier in my life. Obviously the cold and snow for 4 months of the year is what you have to deal with though. personally i'm fine with it. i just hang out at home, go to friends or go to bars in the winter. thank god i'm a drunk and can have fun inside....

Budget?

But Hoboken, NJ is supposed to be the best place for Young Singles.. But it has high rent there.

It's really close to NYC and Jersey City. It also has cold winters and hot summers (all 4 season weather).. Humidity could be a problem in the rainy months.. but the night life and all the job oppertunities is definately a plus ++

They are just looking for opinions and ideas on where to live, what is wrong with that? If you don't like the thread then don't respond to it just to say "you're stupid for asking a question". It's a god damn relocation website, what the hell do you expect? And she already started two threads about moving to NYC or San Diego. So obviously she is keep her options open and looking for other ideas. People throw ideas for cities out there all the time. If a city comes to mind when I see these types of threads, but if its too vague or I can't think of one then I just skip it and move on. Some of you people are so damn judgmental when it comes to others and feel the need to put others down just b/c you don't like their thread or how they worded it. Well get over it and get over yourself.

Yeah. And Coldwine gave them their opinion, and I gave them mine, and then What! gave them theirs.

Seriously, with the way things are going lately--that's the best advice I can give: move where you can get the best, most secure job. That's priority 1. If you can find a city that you love on top of that, more power to you. If not, in a few years when things get back on track, move some place better.

Many Midwestern cities have a combination of diverse job markets with low unemployment, low cost of living and a fair amount of excitement and things to do. Des Moines, Omaha, Madison, Sioux Falls, St. Louis come to mind.

And by the way, thanks so much for bringing in some unnecessary negativity (and language), it really added a lot to the conversation, you must be a real pleasant person!.

Opinion on what?? On how you or Coldwine think the thread is stupid or "obtuse" and berating the OP for what they are looking for?

And now after I call out your BS you decide to actually suggest some cities. Give me a break. Also it interesting how you use a quote not addressed to you to respond to me instead of the actual post that I wrote to you.

Is this seriously the first thread you've seen like this? There are threads like this all the time, how is this one any different?

And just b/c something is YOUR priority doesn't mean it's going to be or should be someone else's. Do you understand that?

The people in Buffalo are incredibly friendly, The Elmwood Village in the city of Buffalo, recently rated the 3rd best urban community in America, is probably the most young, hip, exciting, and lots to do areas that you would be shocked at. And a close walk to Downtown's thriving Theatre district that rivals NYC Broadway.

If you can get a job, and don't mind too much snow in the winter, (we really don't get as much as you may think), give Buffalo a try, as the city is experiencing a renaissance and is on the verge of a breakthrough. Lot's of young people you around your age moving in, and I think that here, you would finally feel "at home."

So... maybe you can give Buffalo, NY a thought? (Just my suggestion for someone like you )

I had to stand up and excuse myself to another room away from my co-workers. I then proceeded to laugh uncontrollably.

Don't worry about coldwine, he is about the most negative and judgemental poster on here.

Good places to move that are exciting and with a good economy right now are Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, San Antonio, Seattle, San Diego, Raleigh, Charlotte, Philly, Ok City and Omaha

Great cities that have economies that need work but other than that are wonderful are Cleveland, Buffalo, Rochester NY and Portland

Great cities but not practical because of cost of living and NYC, DC and Boston
