There are several islands on the Georgia coast that fall under conservation status, most notably Cumberland Island National Seashore, which I think would be wonderful if turned into full-fledge NATIONAL PARK. Because its only accessible by ferry, and the NPS so tightly controls the number of people who get to step foot on it annually, few people will ever enjoy what is truly one of -- if not THE -- most beautiful and pristine beach on the entire Eastern Seaboard!

Baxter State Park in Maine: home of Mt. Katahdin, official end of the Appalachian Trail.

Still can't see them. Are they hidden behind those hills?

Default Huron Mountains

Arguably the best area of Michigans Upper Peninsula... Sadly the area is in the hands of the super wealthy... so exclusive Henry Ford was said to have been denied membership in the "Huron Mountain Club".

It doesn't matter if a feature is protected by the National or the State parks system. For example, there is a mission in San Antonio that is a National historic site, but it's not the Alamo, which is protected under State jurisdiction. What would be gained by shifting the Alamo to federal control?

Tried to rep you.

What do you think about the Teanaway River Valley? Possibly not a national park, but something to protect its pure natural beauty and a place for outdoor recreation as it is now! Maybe I'm biased as its one of my favorite places, but I'd HATE to see it developed, which is what one company wants. Makes me sick. There is a big movement against it in Kittitas County. Look up "friends of the Teanaway".

Although we already have Alcatraz, I think incorporating an active Super-Max prison would be fun and educational for all. Along with different options for lodging accomodations and restaurants that overlooked the recreational areas, they could have a tram that looped on through the yard, mess halls and cell-blocks to better see the facilities up close.

Monument valley on the border of Arizona and Utah for one. White sands in NM for another.

Recently returned from Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio. Wasn't expecting much, as I've only ever really passed through the state and didn't think it had much in the way of scenery. We were blown away by the gorges, cliffs, recess caves and waterfalls. Definitely should be considered for "national park" status.
