The Sierra are way 'bigger' than the Rockies. They may top out at the same elevation but the Sierra go all the way down to near sea-level whereas the Rockies, in most places, don't begin to rise from the plains until a mile above sea level which makes them not too much bigger than the higher part of the Appalachians.
