I think Utah should be its own country.

If we had to join with another state, I think it should be Colorado, since Denver and Salt Lake are so similar, and we share the Rockies.

Really??
I always though if anything California would divide from the Uber Liberal North to the Moderate-right leaning South.
IE: Break Away Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, and the rest of SoCal from San Fran, San Jose, and Bay area...

Texas, according to its original statehood agreement with the United States, had an absolute right to split into as many as five states at any time it so desired.

I think Utah is much more like southern Idaho than it is to Colorado. Culturally SLC is more like Boise than Denver.

Anyway, I could see southern Florida splitting off to form its own state, and frankly I would love to see that. I'm a native Floridian and put Florida's financial and environmental woes squarely on South Florida. The good people of the Panhandle would probably see much lower taxes if they didn't have to keep subsidizing all the crap in South Florida.

The most common one I hear about is Illinois. People in southern and central Illinois don't feel they have anything in common with people in Chicago.

California **may** end up dividing into 3 or 4 states if their budget deficit cant be solved.

That will change things up if it happens.
