One of the main criteria that I would use when considering a relocation to another city is asking this question of natives:
Where do you go when you have a three-day weekend?
In other words, a 2-3 hour ride from home.

In the Boston area there are several.
Cape Cod.
The Coast of Maine
The Lakes or Slopes of New Hampshire.
Dinner and a Broadway show in NYC.

Even though there is plenty to do in Houston, you could go take a trip to South Padre, North Padre and Corpus Christi, the casinos in Lake Charles, picnic at Lake conroe or go see the Alamo or Riverwalk in San Antonio

Where I'm at in Florida...anywhere within 3 hours is....Florida.

I know I can make it to Naples or Orlando, But I don't drive, really, so I wouldn't voluntarily relocate.

I go to Austin, TX. It's about a 3 hour drive from Houston. I used to go to Dallas but it's 4 hours away from Houston and that's just too far for me. Both cities are great!

Where I am located 3 hours drive time is still Michigan. Being able to go to different states isn't a very good indicator of quality of location. It just means you live in a tiny state. In 3 hours and staying in the same state I can see some great areas. OR make it 4 hours trip time, and I'll take the last coal fired car ferry on the Great Lakes, across for a cruse to Wisconsin. That would be 15 minutes driving time and just under 4 hours of relaxing cruising aboard ship.

If you are looking for cities, 3 or maybe 4 hours would get you to Chicago, Lansing, Grand Rapids and all are big enough to have Theater, Music, Great dining (even though I don't have to leave town for great dining), Museums, Aquariums, Zoo's, etc.... We are never more than 6 miles from navigable waters in Michigan and never more than 85 miles to a Great Lake (I am about 6 miles to Lake Michigan). Skiing is a short drive, Bed and Breakfasts, Mackinaw Island is 3 hours from here. Largest shifting sand dunes in the US are a short drive and quite stunning. 4 hours will get you to Detroit and the Henry Ford Museum and Greenwich Village.

Wow...I'm in Orlando I have a lot to choose from....
Jacksonville
St Augustine
Just about any beach or city in the State. Every City has something else to offer.

That being said...I'd rather get on the motorcycle, and take all the roads that I don't know where they go and see where I end up.

So just about anyplace would be good for me....well Hawaii, wouldn't work for too long.

This weekend we're going to the Sleeping Bear Dunes on the west coast of Michigan. It is actually a little more than 3 hours, (more like 7!) but we don't mind. There are not a whole lot of places worth going to when you want to "escape from it all." That is, 2-3 hours away. We like going to to Wisconsin and Michigan alot, but most of those places are a little more than 3 hours. Although many Chicagoains find themselves In Lake Geneva or Galena on the weekends, which are onl about an hour drive, and they are both very nice cities.
