8. TIE Cleveland ... St. Louis
9. Detroit
Using your criteria listed I'd argue that StL could not be ranked any lower than 3rd, and on many lists may be 2nd. A city of beautiful, livable, diverse urban neighborhoods is EXACTLY what the City of St. Louis is. They all have great connectivity to both of our central business districts by highway, bus, and/or light rail. And Many also are connect through a web of greenways and bike lanes. Downtown St. Louis, even with $7 Billion of new investment in the last 10 yrs, is a work in progress. Anyone who knows St. Louis knows that visiting our bustling historic city neighborhoods is how you truly get to know StL.

my rankings
1Chicago - in a league of it's own
2Minneapolis
3St. Louis
4Kansas City
5Cincy
6Cleveland
7Milwaukee
8Indy
9Columbus

I will say I don't think there is much of a gap from 3-7. I left out Detroit because i've never been there.

I'll make two lists: one that reflects my personal opinion and one that reflects what I think the rankings SHOULD be -- or more universally-accepted.

My List:
Minneapolis
Chicago
St. Louis
Detroit
Cleveland
Milwaukee
Columbus
Kansas City
Cincinnati
Indianapolis

"Universal" List:
Chicago
Minneapolis
Detroit
St. Louis
Columbus
Cincinnati
Indianapolis
Milwaukee
Kansas City
Cleveland

Probably beer - I wouldn't know. My daughter lives in the Milwaukee area, and I can honestly say I've never smelled anything. By the way, nice left-handed compliment.
