Red face Weird is as weird does

In the grammatically challenged category: La Puente, California

In the "gee, ain't we old. . . NOT! category: Mission Viejo, California

In the tourist not getting why the place was named that way because they don't look at the geological rock formations nearby category: Needles, California

In the "hey, let's shorten the name to two syllables" category: Norco (North Corona), California

In the "see how cute I can spell a familiar expression differently" category: Ojai (Oh, hi), California

In the "let's fool them into thinking we're in Canada" category: Ontario, California

In the "we're just plain fooled by the plant life since we're Swiss-German immigrants founding a town in 1886" category: Palmdale, California (where no native palm trees exist, though thousands of Joshua Trees are native here. . . the name should have been "Joshuaville")

In the just plain weird place category: Slab City, California, home of the candy paint colored Salvation Mountain and home to homeless squatters statewide. . . a free slab for your RV awaits! Air conditioning and trash collection is extra charge, though (Imperial Valley, California)

In the make up your mind category: Squirrel Mountain Valley, California (Kern County, California)

And finally, in the "nicest name for your new home" category: Weedpatch, California (Kern County, California)

. . . and that's just California, folks! David Letterman, you have competition!

s/AV Native
