Is anyone here descended from ethnic Germans who migrated from the Volga region of the Russian Empire in the 19th centuries? One of the most famous of this group of "German Russian Americans" is Lawrence Welk.
Yep. Grandparents immigrated from Saratov, Russia, in the early 1900's. Settled in Ft Morgan, CO. In Ft Morgan, some of the old folks still speak "low German". My grandparents wouldn't let the children speak German at home, so my late Mother could understand words but wasn't conversational. Shame.
I am not, but my 'across the street' neighbor is descended from Volga Germans.
