Ive heard some white people from Northern New Mexico talk with a slight spanish accent, its an accent that isnt found anywhere else, but Norhtern NM is mostly hispanic though so Im sure they just grew up around it and picked it up.

I have an Indian friend who has family in Tennessee. I imagine they exhibit the local accent.

Thanks southernnaturelover!
I listened to Jindal. He seems to have only a slight southern accent. Definitely not as pronounced as my (Asian) Indian friend.

But I guess the southern accents in general are not as strong as they used to be.

Well I'm half-Japanese and grew up in Georgia, so I could fall into that category. I've been told that I have a combination of a Southern and Japanese accent, if you can imagine how that would sound.

There are light skinned Blacks who deliberately speak with an accent to show their "blackness".
In many parts of the world accents do say something about your identity, and the race conscious America is no exception.

Newarkbomb's post shows it. Just read the last sentence.
