I was searching for a city (I think it was my hometown) online and found City-Data.

I am a history and geography freak. I been to City Data before but I never realized this site was so massive.
I was trying to find out the name of the mountains in Western NY (my latest project hehe) and came to a City Data post that said "Catskills in the West" or something like that. It finally dawned on me that here was a website with alot of intelligent people talking about cities, states, maps etc. Now I am hooked!

I was looking for information about a former psychiatric hospital where my biological mother had done some kind of course or internship many years ago. When I googled it I came across someone who posted something about it on City-Data as it is a place that closed many years ago.

I moderate at another forum that was bought by the owners of this one, and one of the admins here is the admin there. He regularly brought this place up, so curiosity got the better of me.

I think I discovered this site when I was looking up information about DC or Prince George's County (I live here) just for fun back in 2011. You'll see my join date on display too. I think my very first post was in the NYC forum back in 2012 a day or two after Super Storm Sandy hit New York City.

One of my best imaginary friends recommended this to me as a way to keep distracted from what's outside my door trying to get in at me.

We had been city shopping for 2 years and every time we had the list down to two cities, I'd google City1 vs City2 and would get links from City Data. After so long, I had no choice but to join. Eventually we settled on New Orleans after I started a thread titled "New Orleans vs Atlanta".

I was getting ready to visit my family in rural Virginia and was looking for a place to ask for a restaurant recommendation. That was five years ago.
