arent most of crimes in the southside during the night. Just stay out of those areas and youll be fine. I doubt murders ever happen in the central business district or in the north side (think about it there are more cops, more alarms, and they would have to go across the river and the loop, in traffice to get back to their homes)

This has been a pretty rough year for Chicago. The homicide count has been steadily going down since 2003 up until this year. Im not completely sure why. They still do have pretty bad gang problems in Chicago. It may be due to the recession.

Also, the southside isnt the only rough area in the city. There are areas of the westside that are pretty rough and even the Northside has murders. The areas with little homicides tend to be: Downtown, far SW side, most of the Northside, and NW side. But no neighborhood is immune to the crime.

It seems like alot of cities have seen increases in murders this year, hopefully the murder totals don't start going back to late 80s early 90s totals.

Yeah, it is a shame that the number of murders have increased this year when they had been dropping pretty consistently over the years. It is still nothing like what I remember living here in the early 90's when there was quite literally twice as many homicides (in 1992 there were almost 950 homicides, yes, I was living here then too).

As the economy goes down, crime goes up.

Yep. Most of the crime is happening on the west side and south side. I actually find the west side worse than the South side. That's me though. Probably because the west side is smaller than the south side.

Chicago has been averaging about 18 murders per week recently and NYC is averaging 10. You might find a specific number if you do an Internet search.
