Although Baltimore's rate is still to high to my liking, we are right now way down from previous years to the lowest amount of homicides since 1970. I hope that rate continues to decline. A number of cities do not publish their stats. But, from those that do, New Orleans and St Louis seem to be the highest per capita.

Not sure who told you 18. That would be almost 80 murders per month. The most we tend to see is 40-45 during bad months.

[quote=Cle440;5882464]This has been a pretty rough year for Chicago. The homicide count has been steadily going down since 2003 up until this year. Im not completely sure why.QUOTE]

Actually the murder rate has been steadily going down since 1993. Last year the murder rate at the end of the year was 53% lower than it had been in the 90's.

So even though the rate is up 15% compared to last year (the lowest since the 1960s), we're still actually doing much better than just 4 years ago. Still, obviously, the number of murders here is absolutely horrid. I feel bad for people living in those neighborhoods on the south and west side that see a Lion's share of our crime.

The violent crime rate is up a little over 3% for the year and the property crime rate is up 3.7%. Those numbers are still some 40-60% off our high points in the 90's.
