We tried Metric and the masses didn't like it, so it never gained in popularity. That is the beauty of living in a Country that doesn't dictate the smallest things, but lets the people chose what they want. Therefore we are still using the system we do. When the majority want to switch, we will. Simple really. At least for people born and raised with those kinds of freedoms it is simple to understand.

Nope. We have been free to use whatever system we want since the 1880's when the metric system started. Don't have to vote for which one to use, we can do whatever one we want to. The majority want what we have. If it goes the other way, metric will slowly replace what we use in everyday life.
They started to put metric units on packaging back in the 70's when the government thought we should switch, but it never caught on beyond labeling.
