I don't understand why this discussion keeps coming up over and over. Nobody will convince anyone else of their preferences. I like the US system and don't care for the metric system. What's wrong with the US using our present system? I would think we have a lot more important issues to be concerned about than this kind of stuff. If foreigners don't like our system, they can go back home! What's the old saying 'when in Rome, do as the Romans do'. I personally don't care what system other countries use. That's their business. Why does everyone want to change America to some other value system?

Because we are different and they have grown up with the socialist way of thinking and that means Different = Wrong. Can't be different, must conform so everybody is equal and alike.

The reason most of our ancestors left where they were from and moved here to begin with.

^ it's not CONFORMING to some cult or something. It's just rational and makes sense. Everyone else followed through and did it, it just takes some initiative.

We were following suit with the rest of the world on converting, but then the '73 economy crash and oil embargo happened and that kinda sidelined everything. For one reason or another we never followed through and completed the changeover. Schools were issued books with metrics, businesses were getting ready, the government was getting ready, there was massive publicity about the change. We were about 30% through the process and suddenly much more important stuff came up....we just never got back to the issue....

What's wrong with using -18 to 38 instead of 0 to 100. That's still 56 degrees to use. Are people really saying they won't know how to dress for the day because it's not as specific as say 77 degrees compared to 76 degrees. The other 6 billion people get along just fine...

Say you cut out all the odd numbers when saying the temps. You would know just as much what it feels like if you were counting 68 degrees compared to 70, 72, 74, 76, 78. Celcius' measure is even tighter than that.

It's not like the difference between 18 and 19 celcius is like the difference between 55 degrees and 70 degrees.

18 to 19 is the same as 64 to 66.

Fahrenheit doesn't even make any sence.. as you said.
6 billion people use metric system while .3 billion use imperial.

^ I do agree with using metric, but I still don't understand why this is such a huge deal with you. We just use a different system - OH WELL.

Maybe it'll change, maybe it won't. It really doesn't affect my life personally. The British drive on the left hand side of the road, everyone else in Europe drives on the right. Kinda the same thing. It just is what it is.

Then what you need to do if you haven't had it yet in your Civics class is start a petition, then get the backing of one of our lawmakers (check with you local US Representative or Senator first) to introduce a bill. I have to tell you though, it is a lengthy process, but if you put forth 1/2 the effort you do in posting stupid threads and ridiculous arguments here on C-D you should have this done in no time at all.

Remember, to get FAR more signatures than the minimum you need because they will all be checked and the non-valid ones will be tossed out and not counted. Check with your state elections board and find out all the steps to have this put before the voters (remember we are a democratic republic here and not a socialist government that just can slap on rules and laws without a majority OK). Then you will have to get someone to sponsor the bill on a National level. Good Luck.

Or you could quit crying in your Cheerios and learn to suck it up and use what the rest of the 350,000,000 inhabitants of the US use.

Count the illegals and it is well over 350 million. I'll stand by my numbers thank you very much. Name calling by a kid doesn't affect me in the least. There is NOTHING you can come up with that is new or unique

Dude, 305 million was an estimation number with illegal immigrants, so don't come up with adding additional 45 million....
Learn geography first and the numbers, then talk.
