Delta (as in the greek letter shaped like a Triangle) would in this case be the additional numbers of posts generated over a period of time, and whether the numbers of additional posts are steady, increasing or decreasing.

Wierd that Wyoming, with the smallest population in the country, is in the top half.

ScranBarre thank you for this thread. I was just thinking yesterday why Indiana doesn't have the posters like other states. I just quickly scanned the posts of other states but not all of them.

What you did in 45 minutes would take me daaaaaaaaaaaaaays with my slow dial up if I had to do it.

Good job, ScranBarre! Very interesting info!

It seems perhaps that Texans are in second because there are several MSAs with significant populations but also because we have to spend quite a few posts defending ourselves from those who still think J.R. Ewing exists and that we all live on ranches and ride horses to work and school. When I attended grad school in a midwestern state in the '90s (one where oodles of people are leaving or trying to leave), I was surprised that people were so dense about the day to day life of someone in another state. Not another country, another state. I wanted to tell them that it's just like where they live only we have hotter summers and warmer winters. And we don't all live here just because it's relatively inexpensive. If that's all people cared about, we could live any number of places.

My favorite house just about a mile from home probably goes for 1.5 mil and is surrrounded by homes with the same value. Not exactly cheap.

As implied earlier about North Carolina, it all depends on how many "heavy hitters" of sorts a sub-forum has. For example, I don't think the Administrator in a million years ever could have guessed that the Northeastern Pennsylvania sub-forum's popularity would have skyrocketed to the point it's at today when he skeptically honored my tantrums to create such a sub-forum, but then again when you have people like yours truly, Summering, poconoproud, MermanMike, Jungle George, I LOVE PA, and so many others posting daily the tally really adds up quickly. I can identify dozens of "regulars" on the NEPA sub-forum off the top of my head, and if and when I finally saddle down and get our long-anticipated get-together off the ground I'll be sure to make sure it is covered by the local media (which serves a market of about 2,000,000) in order to further boost this great forum's popularity.

I mean do you honestly think more people want to move to Scranton than to San Diego, Philadelphia, Seattle, or a few dozen states? No. The only people moving here are NJ/NYC folks seeking power-commuter transplant magnet communities with inexpensive housing and good schools. We just probably have one of the highest concentration of City-Data members on a per capita basis living within our boundaries, including a few moderators (speaking of which whatever happened to our NEPA moderator friend ontheroad? I miss him!) I miss KittensPurr as well. She left the forum in a huff after a severe fight between us!

Bingo! Rate of posting I think is more interesting than total number. Then after about a year of monitoring, we can do some polynomial curve fits and publish the post rate functions!:P:P:P:P Only joking about the curve fitting, of course.

Contrariwise I think it's neat to see how far up the "food chain" that my own sub-forum has gone since the last time I did this out of curiosity a number of months ago. If you want to find a bunch of blabbermouths we have them in Northeastern Pennsylvania! LOL!
Keep up the good work. It's always interesting to see who has the "big mouths", LOL. I wish you could do a data list for most "views". I have a really big, at least I think so, following on a thread I have in TN but not a lot of responses.

Also bear in mind as a disclaimer that a couple of these rankings may already be obsolete, as people have still been posting for the half-hour or so I have been compiling this data. If there is enough interest in these rankings I will volunteer to update this thread weekly---perhaps even asking to get it stickied somewhere.
