For those of you who have left your home city at what age did you leave? Plus what city did you move away from and what city did you move to?

I was born in Queens, NY and lived there for a VERY short period of time. Grew up here in Scarsdale and am a Senior in HS right now. I'm moving to Boston, MA next year to attend Boston College and play football. I'll be 18 when I move out.

I'm looking forward to it. Boston's cool.

When I was 17 I moved away from home to attend college. About 400 miles south in Los Angeles.

Interesting topic. I left home compliments of the Navy in 1970, at the age of 23, a small town in Mississippi. Lived in Arlington and Alexandria, VA, and returned home in 1974 only cause the economy was in the tank. Got an opportunity to reenlist, went to Colorado for a total of near bout six years, returned to Mississippi once again, but to go to school at Ole Miss, attempting a 2nd degree. Ended up in Pensacola for a few years, and reenlisted one more time, for the final time. Lived outside New Orleans for some three years, then in Norfolk, VA, and the surrounding area for four years, transferred to the D/FW area in December 1990, and have been in TX since. It's "home," now, near bout 18 years.

I left home when I went away to college. After graduation I moved back home and a few years later I moved out again. I've never lived more than 100 miles away from home and I probably never will. Kinda sad. I'd love to live for a few years in a foreign country but I would have to have a pretty good job there to justify such a move.

I grew up in the Chicago area. My family and I left the area when I was 15, and moved to Dallas. I stayed there until I graduated high school. I went into the military just one month shy of turning 18, and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. I spent 7 mos in Saudi Arabia (Desert Storm), and returned to finish my time at Ft. Hood. When I left the military, I lived in Austin for about a year, and then moved to Arizona. Meanwhile, a large portion of my family is still living in the Chicago area.

The morning after my high school graduation. All I did was go and live with my older sister, so I could have a better chance in the city of getting a summer job, and then I went away to college.

I lived in MA from birth to age 10, when my family moved just up to NH. I left home at 17 to go to college in Los Angeles, where I am currently (in my senior year). It was a major culture shock and, while prior to my departure I thought that my town of 3,000 was incredibly boring, I've learned to appreciate it for all it has to offer.

Conversely, I've come to detest Los Angeles with every fiber of my being, but fortunately had the chance to study abroad in England and again in France. In less than 6 weeks I'll be out of LA for good.
